Since 2012, EU member states, partner countries and Russia have been celebrating European Cooperation Day. It has become a good tradition in the North-West of Russia to carry out thematic events aimed at familiarizing population of the region with the achievements and opportunities provided by cross-border and interregional cooperation. For the EC Day 2019, Estonia – Russia, South-East Finland – Russia and Latvia – Russia Cross-border cooperation programmes and Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme, implementing in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, will focus on environment issues. We hold an interactive event “Nature as our common treasure” targeting particularly youth of the regions.
At the event, school graduates and first-year students of educational institutions of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region will get acquainted with the projects implemented within the programmes, and become active discussants on possible project synergies to meet common environmental challenges and to contribute to wellbeing of the regions. The proposals made by the future influencers are also of interest for preparation of the EU-Russia cooperation programmes 2021–2027.
We expect the stakeholders to participate in our event, including national authorities of the Russian Federation, regional authorities of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, managing authorities of participating programmes, officials representing border regions of participating states, Consulates and the Delegation of the European Union to Russia.
European Cooperation Day event will take place on 25th September 2019 from 10:00 to 15:00 in the Information and Education Center of the St. Petersburg Vodokanal, at the address: Russia, St. Petersburg, Shpalernaya str., 56; supported by the Committee for External Relations of St.Petersburg and the Committee for External Relations of Leningrad Region.
