The awarded project “Hazardous chemicals in the eastern Gulf of Finland – concentrations and impact assessment – HAZLESS” (Project) (ER-90) is now officially launched and will be implemented by 3 partners: Tallinn University of Technology, Institution of Russian Academy of Sciences Saint-Petersburg Scientific-Research Centre for Ecological Safety and Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. One more organization is involved in project implementation as associated partner – Finnish Environment Institute.
The Project coming under Thematic Objective (TO) 6 “Environmental protection, climate change mitigation and adaptation” will focus on adaptation and implementation of uniform biological indicators for assessment and control of environmental quality in the eastern part Gulf of Finland (GoF). The development and harmonization of marine monitoring and environmental status assessment between countries sharing the same sub-regions are essential. The proposed project is directly linked to the ongoing work in HELCOM and is the national (Estonian and Russian) and sub-regional (GoF) contribution rather than duplication regard to the assessment of the impact of harmful substances.
The project within the course of 35 months will
organize the exchange of information regarding the evaluation of pressures,
joint attempts to fill in gaps regarding Good Environmental Status descriptors
and boundaries.
The project overall budget is EUR 469 300,00 which includes
Programme co-financing in the amount of EUR 422 370,00.
