What is the value of cross-border cooperation (CBC) and its impact on the development of remote areas and border regions?

On 14 October 2020 the 18th European Week of Regions and Cities provided a unique platform for the online workshop “Let mayors speak of neighbourhood” gathering a wide international audience.

Four mayors of local governments shared their stories, experiences and expectations for cooperation on EU external borders in the sphere of environmental protection, border management, people to people cooperation and economic development. Programmes` representatives introduced the achievements of cross border cooperation in the region by clusters.  

Project partner of Estonia-Russia Programme Mr Raul Kudre, Mayor of Setomaa Municipality (Estonia) presented results of cross-border cooperation in the Lake Peipsi area and how environmental protection and tourism business evolving together.

Event was aimed at decision-makers and CBC actors of the countries participating in the Northern Cluster programmes representing EC, European Parliament, respective ministries of the Russian Federation and member states, embassies.    

Online session was organised by Northern Cluster involving seven cross-border cooperation programmes and eight countries – Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Norway, the Russian Federation and coordinated by TESIM project.
