Estonian EU external border programme

On 22-23 September Estonia-Russia Cross Border Cooperation Programme celebrated the European Cooperation Day in Narva, the border city of Estonia and Russia and the Autumn capital of Estonia.

On 22 September international youth discussion group Bridging youth: building future together” held in Narva Youth Centre brought together about 50 students from Estonia, Russia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Hungary. Event was opened by Mr Tarmo Tammiste, Mayor of Narva city and Mr Pjotr Kodulov, Vice-Consul of Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Narva, Estonia. Added value of cross border cooperation, its contribution to the development of the regions was brought up by Mr Rein Tammsaar, Director General, Political Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. Cooperation across the borders and Estonia-Russia CBC Programme was introduced by Ms Unda Ozolina, head of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Estonia-Russia CBC Programme.

 

Under the guidance of an inspirational moderator Dr. Stefano Braghiroli, Lecturer of European Studies of Johan Skytte Institute of the University of Tartu participants held lively discussions during the day. Ideas were exchanged in international work groups concentrating on opportunities and challenges in cross border cooperation and youth role in it with a focus on four main topics like environment, youth mobility and borders, local and regional decision-making processes, trade and business. Working together the common positions of teams were reached and formulated.

  

Ideas and suggestions generated by students were presented at Narva City Council to members and representatives of the city councils of Narva (Estonia), Ivangorod (Russia) and its partner towns. Please have a look on students’ proposals HERE.

  

On 23 September Estonia-Russia CBC programme was a part of international sailing competition Narva Regatta 2017 on the Narva River. Estonia-Russia CBC Programme sail on the yacht successfully tried the first wind with international team from Estonia and Russia on board.

In parallel the activities for younger participants were taking place in workshops which were supplemented by performances of Narva local music groups. Photo hunting competition brought together over 10 teams from Estonia and Russia.

  

Members of the discussion group, best teams and most enthusiastic participants of the workshop were awarded with Programme and EC Day souvenirs.

Event was organised in close cooperation with Narva City.

On 30 September in Pskov, Russia the Estonia-Russia and Latvia-Russia CBC Programmes will held Business Breakfast and Pancake Party  to learn about the territorial cooperation and celebrate the EC Day!

“Sharing borders, growing closer” is the motto for the European Cooperation Day what is celebrated every year on 21 September and surrounding days throughout Europe and beyond its external borders.
