Improving competitiveness of rural SME’s by teaching innovative eco-technologies and farming practices, fostering cross-border contacts and creation of infrastructure adding value to the farm products

“Active Village” project aims to improve the competitiveness of rural SMEs and entrepreneurs by fostering cross border cooperation and product development in horticultural sector. The assortment and volume of farm products and processed local food products will be increased and new methods in product development learnt. Modern infrastructure and equipment for product development and processing of primary farming products will be arranged for rural SMEs and gardeners from horticultural sector in South-Estonia and Pskov region.

Specific objectives:

  • Improvement of the capacity of rural SME’s acting in horticultural sector in establishing short supply chains with end customers and in providing them high-value products with better profitability
  • Creation of sectoral network of rural entrepreneurs generating additional turnover from cross-border cooperation
  • Creation of modern infrastructure for rural SME’s from horticultural sector

Main activities:

  • Renovation of former pigsty in Obinitsa (Estonia) and convertion it into a modern freezing center
  • Installation of innovative automatic irrigation system in Räpina School of horticulture (Estonia)
  • Construction and equipping the center for drying and packaging of agricultural products in Pskov (Russia)
  • Trainings and promotional activities for strengthening of cross-border business contacts
